Long known as the ultimate beach getaway destination, the ‘DR’ is known for its friendly people and its long strands of beach against the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Every year though, Golf becomes a higher priority for its visitors, a country that had only a handful of courses 20 years ago, now boasts over 30 layouts around the Island and some of the best in world to bring a little excitement to your winter getaway.

The best locations are along the South Coast of the DR, in the La Romana and the Juan Dolio area, less than an hour from the capital, Santo Domingo, there is a growth of golf and beach visitors every year, led by that classic Golf Resort, Casa de Campo. With 3 incredible courses to choose from, the Teeth of the Dog course is ranked #45 in World annually, as it hugs the coastline and the pounding surf of the Caribbean Sea. Certainly one of Pete Dye’s finest ever. The other 2 layouts on property are most enjoyable and no push over in their own right. Golf not to be missed! In nearby Juan Dolio, be sure to visit Guavaberry GC and the Los Marlins GC, both a perfect country club retreat for the day.

In the South East region of the Island, the growing beach community of Punta Cana is the real spur of golf development in the DR. Not long ago, it was home to 1 course, and 10 years later, it has 12 courses to enjoy, with more being added annually. Some of the finest efforts of Nicklaus, PB Dye, Nick Faldo, Nick Price have now entered the market, making the Punta Cana area the destination for Golf in the Caribbean. Easy air access from across Canada and the USA, make this an easy place to arrive, get to the hotel within minutes, relax, and enjoy a few rounds over the week, never straying far from the resort and its fine beach areas.
